WORK HISTORY
General Manager @Chi Restaurant
Vancouver, BC, CA
Leading a team of 15 staff members, spanning from the kitchen to the front of house, my coordination of the entire group enhances efficiency and maintains order. As our restaurant is more refined in service, in an affluent neighbourhood, responding to unstructured situations with fast critical thinking is essential. I learned to manage customers, communicating with empathy and care, to ensure the best customer experience. Working my way up from host/kitchen helper, to server, and then to manager was insightful and gave my experience on all flanks of the restaurant. The business model was changed to meet the shifting customer demands after the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, including installing and marketing a new to-go and bottle shop. In addition, after years of tax inefficiencies, I implemented my learnings from business school and saved over in sales and income taxes through efficient bookkeeping and tax planning. What I learned:• Managing uncertain times and situations with quick, thoughtful solutions. • The art of influencing others, whether it’s employees or customers• How to spot inefficiencies and problems before they arise.

ABOUT SAMUEL C.
I’ve solved corporate tax/finance issues, organized corporate deals, and led diverse, passionate teams. No matter the situation, collaboration and empathy was crucial for exceeding expectations and achieving remarkable outcomes. My future aim is to leverage our collective strengths to forge a path toward a more equitable future. Through this, the challenges faced by individuals and small businesses today don\'t have to be the enduring struggles of tomorrow. My fundamental conviction is that challenges are merely a stepping stone towards groundbreaking solutions. I believe actionable change is done through collaboration, to solve problems previously thought to be unsolvable. At work, at school, and in my life, I’ve been engaging others to solve issues that deserve a solution. Understanding others, and then rallying them behind a common cause that does good for societal welfare and the planet creates exponentially greater results, no matter the size of the project. Together, we can redefine tax and finance, making it less burdensome for everyone. The future of tax doesn’t have to be taxing. Through my journey so far, I’m regularly reminded of the books that influenced my life. These are guides and inspirations for the path I continue to forge: Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, by Yuval Noah Harari Blink, by Malcolm Gladwell Love is Free, Guac is Extra, by Monty Moran
