About Samuel Hodgson
I started my first job when I was about twelve years old, working as a martial arts instructor. This offered me an interesting insight into the role that servant leadership plays. The ability to stand behind and offer a guiding hand without overstepping bounds and interfering with the learning process was a lesson I learned early, and one that remains present in my working life. My first \"real\" job was as a junior sales associate for The Culture Think Tank. Through this job, I learned the value of defining who a company is, not just what it does. In this job I was selling a product, but what I was actually doing was selling company\'s a better version of themselves. My junior year of college I was approached by one of my professors at Texas A&M, a logical, soft spoken, and sharp man, who offered me a professional internship as an editor for our university\'s undergraduate philosophy journal. During my time under his tutelage, our repour had an underlying theme; refinement. Specifically, the ability to narrow the focus of a broad theme into a concise idea. One that can be expressed and understood clearly and distinctly between the minds engaged in its contents. This experience was a reworking of the way I think about any issue, and helped me to identify the the problematic components, and consider the most practical and attainable first steps towards a solution, as well as a means to communicate these ideas successfully in a group setting. Currently, I work directly under an attorney at the Begum Law Group in San Antonio. This opportunity has give me a chance to garner some insight into the working life of an attorney in the world of personal injury, and consider myself in that role. This job has been essentially one elongated workshop in the process of problem solving and maintaining professionalism under stress. The world of law is one of constant flux and changing regulations and systems. Through this environment, I have learned to keep a singular focus despite the whirlwind of new and foreign tasks assigned to me. My mentor at the firm has taught me to sort through the noise, identify what I can positively effect, and to act on those things diligently and precisely. He has also taught me to recognize what is beyond my control or expertise, accept those things as such, and allow myself to ask for assistance. In my relatively limited professional career I have experienced an array of different positions in a variety of fields. Each one of them offered me unique and invaluable insight. I am grateful for these opportunities, and eager for what\'s next.
