Growing up, I learned to be successful you had to do certain things: go to school; get good grades; graduate; go to college; get a degree; get a job with benefits and work that job for a good forty years to retire and live happily ever after. I did that. Four years into working my job after graduation, I decided to relocate to Florida. I found, the job situation wasn\'t forgiving. I found myself without a job, struggling, frustrated. I did what I was told. I did what everyone said to be successful. Why am I not successful? I found out, social media can help me bypass the applicant tracking system. I can bypass all the rigmarole of applying to hundreds of jobs. I found out, I can control my own career security by putting myself out there, showcasing my talent, value, character, who I am. Also, building relationships to the point people know me well enough to recommend me when opportunities arise. I don\'t have to chase after jobs. Jobs and opportunities chase after me. This is why I speak to the social media savvy. I speak to you who are just like me, frustrated with the inefficiencies of today\'s job search. Ready for something different.
