About Sammy Reid

My name is Sammy Reid and I am a second-year Business Management student at Western Washington University with an Associate of Arts degree from Clark College.I began last year with a drive towards psychology, but my recent involvements have helped me find a new place in management, and I hope that it will guide me to pursue a career in HR management or similar fields. This upcoming summer, I’d like to find an business oriented internship to gain a deeper understanding of the industry.In high school, I was involved with extracurriculars and part time work, but entering into a university atmosphere allowed me to involve myself in more enriching student organizations. I am currently working as a Resident Advisor am the VP of Communications in WWU\'s DECA Chapter, and am involved with the Student Marketing Association (SMA). After participating in the Resident Planning Board last year, I discovered a love for organizing events and supporting my community, which led me to pursue my current role as a Resident Advisor. As an RA, I have actively developed various skills while implementing policies that ensure a safe and supportive living environment. In balancing policy enforcement with care for residents’ well-being, I’ve gained experience that closely mirrors responsibilities in Human Resources. In WWU’s DECA Chapter, I’ve developed several skills such as presenting, time management, and organization through the case competition format. Last year, I participated in the Human Resources Management category and learned how to apply common HR principles to the situations presented to me in these case competitions, giving me an inside look into the field of HR. This year, I plan on experimenting with other categories to broaden my business horizons and learn more about the general field. Through the role of VP of Communications, I have gained experience through designing posters, flyers, and slides, as well as directing, filming, and editing several videos for the Chapter\'s social media.
