ABOUT SAMMIE SHIELDS

Sammie Shields graduated from Wheaton College in May 2020. They double-majored in Economics and Africana Studies integrative with Philosophy. While at Wheaton, they served in several capacities, some include Orientation Committee Member, Black Student Union, and Student Government Executive Vice-President of Community Diversity. They were a research assistant for the Critical Race Theory professor, where they assisted in the scholarship of a Critical Race Theory Manual and several other texts. Sammie completed an accelerated Teaching Residency through NYU Steinhardt’s School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. When they are not in the classroom, they are writing poetry, reading a book, or researching policy. Their studies, leadership positions, and extracurricular reflect his passion for understanding and addressing the socio-economic conditions that tend to marginalize groups of people and communities.
