About Samir H. Moussa
High-performing scientist with >15 years experience in protein science, molecular biology, and microbial genetics as well as leadership experience in both academic and biotech settings.I am currently an Associate Director of Biology at Innoviva Specialty Therapeutics where I utilize molecular biology, various -omics approaches, and protein science methodologies to progress our pipeline. I am also Project Team Leader on an NIH-funded contract, directing biology tasks and working closely with the medicinal chemistry and DMPK teams. Previously, I was Principal Investigator on an NIH-funded post doctoral training grant investigating the role of integral-membrane proteases in Staphylococcus aureus cell division and a contributor to a large multi-lab project grant ($5 million+). I am an effective communicator that has planned and executed several multidisciplinary collaborative projects with colleagues at several institutions. These projects have been published in high impact journals and have been presented at national and international conferences. My technical expertise includes: Biochemistry and Biophysics: recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterization, gel filtration/size exclusion chromatography using AKTA, protein interactomics, HPLC, FPLC, analytical ultracentrifugation, protein crystallization and X-ray crystallography, protein NMR, microscopy (light/fluorescence/electron) Microbiology & Molecular biology: bacterial culture, phage biology, genetics and manipulation of Gram +/- organisms, cell biology, PCR, construct design, cloning, DNA extraction and sequencing, genetic knockouts, random and directed mutagenesis High-throughput: Transposon mutagenesis mapping, RNA-seq, whole genome sequencing and data analysis, candidate gene identification, small molecule screening, bioinformatics Management and Collaboration: mentoring young scientists, leading team-based projects and experiments, proven record of successful internal and external collaboration Scientific writing: data analysis and figure preparation, study reports, manuscript and proposal writing and editing
