ABOUT SAM HINMERS
I’m a Chartered Process Engineer with over 7 years of experience focused on the decarbonisation of heat and thermal energy systems. My work spans R&D, policy support, and major project delivery with extensive technical expertise in thermal systems design, energy storage, and flexible operation.I’m passionate about applying engineering to find economical and efficient solutions to tackle climate change; and I enjoy project environments where I can take ideas from concept through to delivery. I have developed and delivered technologies including thermal stripper systems, novel thermal storage concepts, and low-carbon energy networks. I bring a strong innovation mindset to engineering challenges and have contributed to pre-FEED and FEED design, value engineering, and techno-economic analysis. I prioritise safety in design and delivery, with experience leading safety assessments including hydrogen blending, as well as providing policy advice to the Health and Safety Executive.My current interests focus on flexible operation and long duration energy storage; including the markets and trading and the future of power which will unlock decarbonisation for heat as well as transport and other sectors.
