ABOUT SAMER ALABED
Dr Samer Alabed is a Consultant Cardiac Radiologist and Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield, specialising in artificial intelligence applications in cardiovascular imaging.His research focuses on developing and clinically validating machine learning tools for automated diagnosis, anatomical segmentation, prognostic modelling, and structured report generation in cardiac MRI. His work sits at the interface of imaging, AI, and clinical decision-making, with an emphasis on translation into real-world workflows.Dr Alabed has authored over 100 PubMed-indexed publications, including more than 35 as lead or senior author. His work has received over citations (h-index 29), has been cited in six international clinical guidelines, and has secured more than £1.0M in competitive research funding, including over £200k as Principal Investigator.He is a member of the Executive Committee of the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging (BSCI) and serves as Co-Lead for Education. In this role, he contributes to national education initiatives including the BCS 2026 Cardiac CT Level 1 course, the BSCI 2025/26 webinar series and the organisation of the BSCI 2024 Annual Conference in Sheffield.
