I enjoy working on problems at the intersection of applied mathematics and software engineering. Over the span of last 15 years, I have worked on computational problems for modeling and simulation in automotive, aerospace and consumer goods industry. In my current role, I am working on developing high performance image analysis technologies that are used in biomedical research.

Leading a team of software developers to cater the needs of biologists and scientists at National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Current maintainer and lead contributor to bfio, a popular library for reading and writing biological images Wrote an extension for Google’s tensorstore to process OME Tiled Tiff images and integrated it with bfio (~3X speed gain compared with previous based implementation) Developed an image stacking and 3D image pyramid generation tool (argolid) to process petabytes of 2D z-slice images and create OME Zarr image pyramids Led the development of a tool that allows various image stitching options and on-demand image composition to serve as a backend for Viv and Neuroglancer based viewer Leading the creation of CWL based scientific workflow management tool (sophios) that can produce compute-agnostic workflows to be executed in AWS, HPC and in local environment seamlessly Performing various release management chores to keep the Docker images, Conda recipes, Python wheels and documentation up to date Contributed to a scalable image feature computation library (Nyxus) by writing low-latency CPU and GPU code (C++, CUDA) and improved performance of various image processing workflows at NCATS Routinely met with internal data scientists to understand the needs and developed Python API for various C++ based tools using pybind11 Led the effort to establish various modern SWE practices (CI/CD pipelines, testing framework, release management) for various internally developed opensource software Contributed to various community driven open-source bio-imaging and workflow management projects (jgo, scyjava, toil, cwl-utils) Represented NCATS at various community-led efforts to establish specs and standards for various bio-imaging tools and file formats
