ABOUT SAMEER MANNICK
I am a structural engineer with over 15 years of professional experience within the UK buildings sector, fluent in steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber design. I have worked in multidisciplinary teams, which has supplemented my knowledge of architecture, building services, sustainability, civil and geotechnical engineering. I have also gained a good knowledge of construction practice and health and safety through site experience on both large and small jobs. This has been achieved working on traditional and design and build contracts under £50m. In the last 7 years, I have been increasingly involved in securing new projects, their management and delivery, handling their commercial aspects and running small teams of engineers and technicians. At organisational level, I have been involved in the recruitment of student and graduate engineers, planning short to long term workload, organising training, and putting together fee proposals and submissions to secure new projects. As an advocate of an even work-life balance, I am trained as a Mental Health First Aider and undertake mentoring and coaching of younger engineers and technicians. I have been a Chartered Member of the ICE since autumn 2014 and hold accredited academic qualifications from the University of Southampton in both the disciplines of Civil Engineering (MEng (Hons)) and Architecture (RIBA Part 1). I am passionate about the built environment and enjoy the science and art behind designing inspiring buildings. I am active in improving quality and environmental management systems to help achieve and maintain ISO 9001 and 14001 accreditation. I believe in being organised, proactive, and deliver a high standard of work to keep clients happy so that they come back for repeat business. As a STEM Ambassador, I regularly promote technical subjects and the industry to young people and have been significantly involved with the ICE’s local branch groups for several years, holding various roles on their committees. I am also currently a Delegated Engineer for the ICE, with aspirations to become a Professional Reviewer soon.
