16+ years in software, 10+ of them at Thoughtworks. I build distributed backend systems and the platform foundations that let engineering teams ship without tripping over each other. I\'ve mostly worked on the kind of systems that quietly do a lot of heavy lifting - trading and pricing engines, gas transportation platforms, alternative assets data products, payments processing, and energy trading desks - across fintech, utilities, asset management, payments, and CPG. Some of the work I\'m proudest of: rebuilding the trading and pricing platform at a US-based crypto broker in Golang on Kafka, WebSockets, gRPC, and TimescaleDB for 2M+ users; leading the platform workstream at a major US energy utility covering CI/CD, observability, AuthN/AuthZ, modular architecture, and the reusable libraries that let 10+ stream teams move fast; and delivering a next-gen search platform on.NET Core, Elasticsearch, and EventStore for 100k global clients at a London-based alternative assets data provider. Most recently I\'ve been working on AI-led legacy modernisation - using tools like Mechanical Orchard\'s Imogen, Google MAT and Thoughtworks\' AI/works™ CodeConcise on mainframe estates at one of the UK\'s largest automotive manufacturers, and Claude Code on production engineering work. Genuinely interesting territory, and the playbook is changing fast. Mostly Golang.NET, and Java. Kafka, GraphQL, Postgres, Kubernetes, Azure, and AWS. Long-running interest in IAM and event-driven systems. Beyond delivery, I have designed and delivered engineering enablement programmes for client and internal teams, including developer bootcamps, cloud-native workshops, and public technical talks.
