WORK HISTORY
Engineering & Innovation Manager @Phoenix Software
GB
Leading Phoenix\'s Engineering & Innovation function. A business unit I conceived and built to drive our Growth Strategy 3.0 through three pillars: Automatino, Innovation, and Productisation. I lead a team of AI/ML developers, full-stack engineers, and DevOps engineers. We treat Phoenix as customer-zero: building internal efficiency tools that transform how our people work, then moving those successes into market-leading customer offerings. What this looks like in practice- Shipping AI-powered tools into production that are now used used across multiple departments- Designing multi-agent AI architectures using Microsoft Agent Framework, Microsoft Foundry, Anthropic Developer, OpenAI Platform, and models including Mistralm Claude, GPT, Perplexity, and more- Owning product roadmaps across multiple Azure DevOps organisations with formal prioritisation and governance- Writing our AI usage policy. Creating safe boundaries whilst enabling innovation in frontline teams- Maintaing product ownership of Phoenix CMP and AzGuardian alongside new development- Establishing engineering standards, best practices, and governance frameworks across the function- Collaborating with commercial teams on tender responses, technical workshops, and consultancy engagements- Leading stakeholder engagement across the business to identify opportunities for innovation, process optimisation, and new product development

ABOUT SAM COPSEY
I believe the best work happens when you challenge the way things are done, stay genuinely curious, and build environments where people become inspired to be inspired about their work. That convinction is why I created Phoenix Software\'s Engineering & Innovation function. Taking an idea through to a fully operational business unit focused on automation, AI, and productisation. Before that, it\'s why I introduced DevOps as a disciplne across the business and redesigned our managed services portfolio from the ground up.Day to day I\'m across product strategy, architecture, team development, sprint delivery, and governance. I design and build multi-agent AI systems, ship production tools, and maintain ownership of products our customers rely on. All in regulated environments where getting it right actually matters.Always happy to talk about AI, engineering leadership, or building things that matter. My inbox is open.
