About Sam Shapiro
I am the founder and CEO of Grounded, an innovative, Detroit-based startup developing smart, modular vehicles for mobile medicine, dental, pet grooming, food & beverage, marketing/brand, retail, and recreational vehicles.We\'re a team made up of engineers, designers, ex-founders, and more. We assembled from around the world with the common goal of making the world would a better place by giving people the freedom and self-reliance to live, work and explore anywhere. We put businesses and adventurers on smart, electric wheels.My background is in vehicle upfitting, software engineering, manufacturing, product development, computer vision, filmmaking and advertising.Before launching Grounded, I worked as a senior software engineer at SpaceX, where I wrote embedded device software for Starlink satellites and WiFi routers, and facilitated customer discovery around engineering and feasibility.Prior to SpaceX, I led the product engineering of advanced advertising products for TripleLift (acquired for $1.4 billion), where I invented and patented the first-ever programmatic, dynamic TV brand integrations, and founded the Vision & Graphics Engineering team. I am also a candidate for a master\'s degree in computer science at Georgia Institute of Technology, where I am expanding my knowledge and skills in AI, machine learning, and graphics.Prior to all of that, I was a filmmaker and creative technologist. I directed, wrote & produced RECOVERY, a short film that premiered at East Village Cinemas in NYC at the Big Apple Film Festival in 2015; I did early technology development for a VR-short film that was featured in Cannes, Tribeca and Sundance in 2018; I worked on several other technology, film, and advertising projects for various clients, including Google, Facebook, GOOD Magazine, NIO (autonomous vehicle startup) and Sperry.
