About Samay Varshney

I’m a backend-focused Software Engineer with a strong interest in building scalable, distributed systems and platform infrastructure that power real-world applications at scale. Currently, I work at Tessell, where I design and build core backend systems across observability, multi-cloud infrastructure, and data platform services. At Tessell, I’ve worked on developing a multi-tenant monitoring and alerting platform handling millions of metrics per minute, and owned the BYOA (Bring Your Own Account) platform, enabling secure, cross-account deployments across multiple clouds. My work focuses on solving problems around high-throughput systems, reliability, and distributed coordination, while optimising for performance and cost at scale. Previously, I’ve built data-driven platforms and analytics systems at D.E. Shaw, and developed real-time streaming systems using WebSockets, Redis, and Celery. Across roles, I’ve consistently worked on improving system performance, reducing latency, and delivering scalable backend solutions used by both internal teams and enterprise users. I enjoy working on systems where scale, reliability, and efficiency matter, and I’m particularly interested in backend infrastructure, observability, and distributed system design. I’m always looking to take on challenging problems and contribute to building robust, high-impact systems.

   Working as a backend engineer in the Infrastructure Platforms team, building scalable systems across observability, multi-cloud infrastructure, and data platform services- Architected and delivered a multi-tenant Alert & Notification system, enabling subscription-scoped alerting with configurable routing across database and compute services, improving observability and alert reliability for 50+ enterprise customers- Engineered a distributed, highly available monitoring and alerting platform using VictoriaMetrics and OpenTelemetry, scaling to 2M+ metrics/min across data plane services- Owned the BYOA (Bring Your Own Account) platform, automating secure multi-cloud onboarding through cross-account infrastructure provisioning and private control plane–data plane communication, reducing onboarding time from weeks to hours- Improved system reliability and stability by leading 24x7 on-call operations and mentoring junior engineers.
