ABOUT SAMANTHA VERMEULEN
I am an Accelerated BSN student at Duquesne University and a recipient of the Duquesne Discovery Award, with a background in Health Policy and Administration and hands-on experience across clinical, behavioral health, pharmacy, and community-based care settings.My academic and professional interests sit at the intersection of clinical practice, health systems, and patient advocacy. After earning my degree from Penn State University in Health Policy and Administration, I developed a strong foundation in healthcare delivery, policy analysis, and organizational leadership. I am now pursuing nursing to directly translate systems-level knowledge into high-impact, patient-centered care.My experience includes work in specialty pharmacy coordination, direct support for individuals with intellectual disabilities, behavioral health services, hospital and community outreach, and frontline clinical roles such as pharmacy technician. Across these settings, I have focused on communication, care coordination, equity, and quality improvement—skills essential to fast-paced and high-acuity environments.I am particularly interested in emergency medicine and community-focused care, with long-term goals of becoming a nurse practitioner. By integrating policy, administration, and bedside nursing, I aim to contribute to a more effective, equitable, and compassionate healthcare system—one that supports both patients and providers when it matters most.
