ABOUT SAMANTHA THOMPSON

I am an experienced litigator with particular expertise across defamation, privacy and data protection. I regularly advise clients seeking to protect their rights in respect of content including the print media, broadcasters, tech platforms, journalists and charities. I am passionate about protecting freedom of expression and information, with a special interest in SLAPPs. Claims I have acted on include the landmark UKSC decision in ZXC v Bloomberg LP, the Mirror Newspapers Hacking Litigation, Wright v McCormack, and several applications before the European Court of Human Rights alleging Article 10 infringement. My non-contentious practice includes pre-publication advice for national publishers, broadcasters and charities, and tech and media regulatory advice under Ofcom and the Online Safety Bill. I am seconded part time to Channel 4, where I provide legal and regulatory advice to the Channel on its proposed programming and other content.
