About Samantha Nelson
My name is Sam Nelson. I am a Case Administrator @ the Ninth Circuit, the External Affairs Lead @ Brio, and a UC Berkeley Legal Studies and Public Policy graduate. At the Ninth Circuit, I open federal appeals, analyze district court dockets, review and file judge orders, and help attorneys and pro se litigants navigate federal appellate procedure for the largest federal circuit court in the country. Outside of my 9-5, I lead External Affairs for the U.S. branch of Brio: a recruiting tech startup based in Paris helping European universities prepare their students for job interviews. By advising and directing the development of Brio Law, a law firm research platform and recruitment prep tool designed to help U.S. law students and pre-law students navigate legal recruiting, I lead Brio’s growth as a global startup by using technology to diversify the legal profession. My two roles allow me to protect and expand access to law by ensuring reliable access to the courts, safeguarding an independent federal judiciary, and breaking barriers to the legal profession. I am going to law school following 3-4 gap years to continue pursuing my interests in appellate litigation and entrepreneurship.
