ABOUT SAMANTHA MAJOR

As an experienced Dementia Consultant, I have over 25 years of specialised experience in supporting people living with dementia and guiding healthcare professionals in managing complex behavioural and psychological symptoms (BPSD) with non-pharmacological interventions. Currently, I provide after-hours support for the Dementia Support Australia DBMAS programme, offering real-time guidance to a diverse range of professionals, including care teams, emergency responders, doctors, and informal carers. My work focuses on managing complex situations with a calm, analytical approach and ensuring effective solutions for individuals with dementia.I am passionate about educating and training healthcare professionals, colleagues, and informal carers. I regularly provide training in non-pharmacological interventions for complex BPSD and dementia care best practices, ensuring that stakeholders have the knowledge and tools they need to effectively support individuals with dementia. My approach to education is always grounded in evidence-based practices and tailored to the unique needs of each audience.I am currently pursuing a PhD in Dementia at the University of Lancaster, with a focus on BPSD and non-pharmacological interventions, further enhancing my expertise in this field. I am passionate about contributing to the global conversation around dementia care and continuously improving the support available to people who live with dementia.
