About Samantha Alviani

As a former magazine editor in Colorado, I wrote and edited stories of place, managing a team of a dozen writers and photographers. Over the last six years with Wildsam Field Guides, I’ve researched and collected oral histories, conducted interviews, and pored over library microfilm, locating sense of place in cities like San Francisco and Detroit, as well as writing and editing the Denver edition in 2018. I’m currently editing the Chicago edition, managing the editorial team and capturing the cadence of the city. As a publicity strategist, I’ve worked within agencies, crafted the stories of brands and businesses, and worked in tandem with media to move those stories and messages into the world. As a freelance writer for publications like Life & Thyme and Huckberry Journal, I’ve explored stories of beekeeping in rural Colorado and written experiential prose on cultural mainstays like Telluride Bluegrass Festival. As a Lecturer at the University of Colorado, I’ve encouraged students to play with—and discover—writing voice, practice, and strategy. Over the last four semesters, I’ve developed thoughtful, engaging interdisciplinary curricula that supports student curiosity: a deeper interaction with reading and writing, creative copywriting and language approach, real-world applications, and the creation of a tangible portfolio and body of work.
