ABOUT SAM OMARI

I deliver capital market solutions to clients as a Managing Director at Riverside Management Group (RMG).RMG is a merchant banking boutique founded in 1996 by Dr. David Carpenter and his son James Carpenter. Additional Founders include Mark Bernegger and Chris Wood. The firm provides financial advisory services to companies, funds, and entrepreneurs. RMG has made investments in the global sports industry, technology, communications, business services, healthcare and hospitality sectors.Nine of RMG’s principals and advisors have served as CEOs, COOs, or CFOs of significant companies across multiple industries and continents. Dr. David Carpenter began his career with The New Jersey Zinc Company (NJZ) in 1963. Recognized early for his expertise in zinc oxide applications with improved semi-conductor properties, he developed critical coatings for the first NASA Mars landers. In 1976 he was appointed head of NJZ’s Metals and Minerals Research Division and received multiple promotions.Following Gulf & Western’s 1967 acquisition of NJZ, Mr. Carpenter coordinated the liquidation of its Natural Resources Group in 1980. In 1981, he co-founded Horsehead Industries, which acquired NJZ from Gulf & Western. Under his leadership as President and Chief Operating Officer, Horsehead executed transactions totaling $3 billion, acquired businesses including Great Lakes Carbon, and grew into a Fortune 500 manufacturing company with over $1 billion in sales.Dr. Carpenter’s most notable achievement was pioneering the EAF Dust recycling industry. Working with his team, he developed pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes to recycle this hazardous steel industry by-product—previously landfilled—into reusable materials. Horsehead’s subsidiary HRD, where he served as CEO until its IPO, became the world leader and has recycled more than seven million tons of EAF Dust.Dr. Carpenter retired in 1996 to found RMG. In 2002, he returned to Horsehead when it faced potential liquidation. He invested substantial personal capital, installed new management, and guided the company through Chapter 11 bankruptcy to save thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
