About Sam N.
I am a PhD-trained bioethicist and philosopher of technology working where AI governance, ethics, and responsible design meet real-world systems.I co-founded the WISEAI Hub, a cross-disciplinary initiative focused on bringing ethical insight and humanities expertise into the actual design and deployment of AI systems. My work blends academic research, leadership, and hands-on engagement with how AI works in practice.Beyond strategy and ethics, I stay closely involved in the nuts and bolts of AI: training, evaluation, data curation, and human-in-the-loop methods. I’m especially focused on how models behave, where risk shows up, and how accountability can be built in from the ground up.My academic background spans environmental philosophy, technology ethics, and food and agricultural systems; all fields rooted in systems thinking, shared risk, and long-term sustainability. I\'ve written extensively on how technology shapes ecosystems, equity, and trust, with food systems serving as a long-standing case study.Currently, I serve as Associate Director of the School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs at Washington State University. I also completed the Harvard Public Leadership Credential program. I’m open to collaboration and project-based work related to AI governance, evaluation, and ethics-driven institutional design.“When food, in the minds of eaters, is no longer associated with farming and with the land, then the eaters are suffering a kind of cultural amnesia. But vision can be restored, and hearts changed.”– Wendell Berry
