ABOUT SAM MACKILLIGIN

Sam joined Atome in November 2024 from 15 years at AECOM, where latterly he had been leading their activity across hydrogen derivatives, from 2022 supporting Atome with engineering and contract management on Villeta. For 37 years Sam has been delivering First of a Kind (FOAK) projects across energy infrastructure and low and high-volume manufacturing for owners and tier-1 contractors, as a commercially aware engineer with a clear approach to managing risk through new project, product and service development processes. For Atome Sam is now using this experience to navigate Atome and the EPC contractor team through conclusion of contract negotiation in April 25, through due diligence processes and providing robust frameworks to manage product quality and equipment performance from construction through to the operational phase. Clients & Projects – Sam continues to provide impartial advice to a wide spectrum of clients across the energy sector, he specialises in helping clients take a FOAK idea, crystalise it and make it deliverable by the progressive involvement of a mix appropriate commercial and technical staff. This relationship approach continues to launch new types of project work through a process of discovery for clients and other members of the supply-chain.Leadership - Sam supports those around him to find and write their own stories at their pace, he can reliably be expected to have a 5-year view of how those stories will unfold. He mentors a wide network of contacts that has been built over 20 years and has been most successful when he has been part of a team that has had a mission to grow capability acting as the inspirer, igniting teams passion by telling those 5-year stories.Supply-chains – Sam has been negotiating complex contractual relationships for 30 years, cross borders and cross industries always bridging cultures. Base capability, collaborative behaviours, aligned expectations, and appropriate procurement approaches are the foundations for building teams to deliver FOAK projects, Sam delivers for his clients and the wider industry.Markets – Sam uses his wide network to continually track the emergence of new technologies and business models, he uses this knowledge combined with a need to understand how things work to see the challenges in delivering them into their markets. These insights inform advice to clients and shape of their FOAK projects.
