ABOUT SAM JARDINE

Software Engineering student at Queen’s University Belfast, having completed my second year, and currently on a year-long placement with PwC through the Flying Start degree programme. With a solid foundation in programming languages including Python, Java, and C#, I am continuously improving my technical and professional skills through successful completion of the AZ-900: Azure Fundamentals, Foundational C# with Microsoft, and PCEP - Certified Entry-Level Python Programmer certifications. These courses deepened my understanding of cloud computing and Azure fundamentals while reinforcing my Python and C# skills.Academically, I’ve achieved a First Class average across both Year 1 and Year 2, studying modules such as Object-Oriented Programming in Java, Relational Databases and SQL, Data Structures & Algorithms in C++, and Machine Learning. My interest in Databases arises from my understanding that data is fundamental to computing; I deepened this interest through research on E. F. Codd\'s 1970 paper,\"A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks.\" Additionally, I was the Treasurer of Queen\'s Computing Society for 2024/25 and have continued on as part of the Events Team for 2025/26. In my free time, I swim, work out, and enjoy music. I play piano, have studied music theory, and recently begun learning the flute.Throughout my placements, I’ve embraced Agile methodologies, including elements of the SCRUM framework, demonstrating a strong commitment to learning, collaboration, and excellence. During my first summer placement with PwC as part of Operate Digital, I served as Lead Tester on a project that involved migrating an internal service from Google to Microsoft technologies. Since July 2025, I’ve taken on a new role within Tech Catalyst as an Intern Software Engineer, working on Tax technology projects. In addition, I was selected for the PwC-funded Makers AI Academy, where I gained practical experience with LLMs, LangChain, RAG, and prompting techniques, and collaborated in a team Hackathon to develop an LLM-powered chatbot.I’m excited about the blend of theory and practice, and I am driven to contribute meaningfully to cutting-edge technology projects while developing into a well-rounded engineer at PwC. I’m also launching a personal GitHub portfolio to highlight my evolving projects and code as I develop as a software engineer.
