ABOUT SAM CURTIS
Highly practiced in static stress analysis and skilled in a wide range of techniques for both metallic and composite materials. These include bolted joints, fuselage frame and skin stress analyses, thermal calculations, test rigs, classic stress methods and a wide variety of generic and company specific composite analysis techniques. • Specialised in the analysis of woven and uni-directional composite materials, including corner radii, sandwich panels, in-plane strength, bonding methods, damage tolerance analyses and quantifying the effects of environmental conditions.• I use NASTRAN/PATRAN finite element analysis software on a regular basis to carry out detailed and coarse-mesh finite element models. I am also experienced in the management of large sets of FEM data required to analyse multiple aircraft load cases. Using these tools in conjunction with theoretical calculations has allowed me to successfully carry out analyses on a wide variety of applications. This includes the analysis of composite and hybrid aircraft structures, including spars, ribs and wing skins for structures with regular and complex geometry.• I am experienced in the co-ordination and management of stress analysis activities of international sub-contractor companies, which has been developed through two years of working as an Airbus test team leader and integration engineer, and also recently in India for Mahindra Satyam. This involves understanding and providing guidance on the analysis and calculation work received and communicating with the supplier to ensure that the work is delivered within project timescales.Specialties: Composite and metallic static stress analysis, finite element modelling (NASTRAN, PATRAN), Airbus specific analysis tools (ISAMI) and hand calculations.
