ABOUT SALVATORE FRANCESCO CANNONE

At the end of the secondary schools the desire to tackle a more qualitative path of study and focused on my growing interests led me to join in the energy engineering course at the Polytechnic of Turin. The topic of renewable energy and the problem of drought (not too far from us) have affected my curiosity. Subsequently I wrote the bachelor thesis’s \"Systems for the desalination of water powered by solar energy\" thanks to the help of the professor Fracastoro. My interests have slowly moved towards the challenges of renewable energy among which there is the intermittency and variability of sources and therefore on the study of the possibilities of storage in different forms. The studies also during the master\'s degree courses have often had in the background the problem of pollution. The major cause are industries and conventional power plants that are the main emitters of CO2 in the environment. This combined with the desire to live a new experience led me to seize the opportunity to carry out an initial internship that then continued in a thesis within the ENEA research center of Casaccia, which is the largest complex of laboratories and installations of the Italian Energy Agency. In ENEA I am working since 10 months for the development of a novel process for CO2 capture and energy storage by means of a combination and hybridization of a calcium-based process (Calcium Looping, CaL) and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies. I implemented my analytical and modeling skills, experimentally verifying what modeled.
