ABOUT SALSABEEL SHAALAN
Second-year PhD student in Molecular Pharmacology and Drug Discovery at the University of Nottingham, in Professor Jeanette Woolard’s lab. My research focuses on signalling pathways in cardiopulmonary pharmacology, contributing to a deeper understanding of mechanisms with direct clinical relevance. Previously, I worked as a Research Assistant in Biochemistry at Durham University on a collaborative project with AstraZeneca, where I developed expertise in fluorescence and luminescence enzyme assays, bead-based enzyme assays, and single-molecule FRET techniques.I hold an MSc in Drug Discovery from the University of Nottingham, where my research centred on membrane receptor pharmacology and GPCRs. My academic training has equipped me with strong skills in bioluminescent receptor assays, calcium functional assays, molecular biology, cell culture, and transfection. In addition, I have a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and three years of professional experience as a hospital pharmacist, which strengthened my communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, as well as my appreciation for the clinical application of scientific research. My academic and professional journey reflects a strong commitment to bridging the gap between laboratory science and clinical application. I am especially passionate about translational research and advancing innovation in drug discovery through multidisciplinary collaboration.
