People don\'t care how much you know until they know how much you care.\"~ Theodore RooseveltI began my career at CEFCU as a Member Center Manager and had a successful run. I found that people are much more inclined to show up for their team when they know how much they are valued. What greater way to demonstrate this than to develop them? I invested in my staff as people and as contributors, recognizing each for their unique strengths and areas of opportunity. I made sure to set them up for success. Instead of assigning production goals to my staff, I allowed them to choose how much they wanted to contribute to the overall Member Center goal. You\'d be amazed at how honest people are with themselves when presented with an opportunity such as this. What I found was that they typically played to their strengths, offering to contribute greatest to areas they excelled at and less so to areas where they weren\'t as successful in. By the end of the process, their combined goals they set for themselves exceeded the goals assigned to the Member Center! Since they had assigned themselves their goals I already had their buy in and as a result, we were exceeding goal month over month. I was also able to hone in on areas where they self identified they could use additional development as evidenced by their choice to contribute less to certain goals. I committed to developing their areas of opportunity, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they needed to engage our membership with confidence. I was grooming them for their next position and had great bench strength so that when they landed that promotion, their replacement was ready to hit the ground running.When the training position became available, it seemed like a natural transition as my success was attributable to my ability to develop people. For the past 7 years I’ve been doing what I love and am passionate about on a much wider scale than when I was managing a Member Center.
