I am a Principal Economist in the Office of the Chief Economist (Core AI). I have worked on high impact projects across Amazon, including: HR (where to select sites, how to pay workers), Finance (how to detect slowdowns, how to measure the impact of finance policies), Marketing (how to allocate promotion dollars efficiently), and PR/Policy (understanding the impact of Amazon on people, places, and firms that it touches). Currently, I lead a 15-person science team who seeks to minimize area of long-term risk in our policy, safety, and operations space. The team uses rigorous methods in economics and machine learning (regression discontinuity design, synthetic control, instrumental variables, propensity score methods, gradient boosted trees, double machine learning, panel models, vector autoregressions) to identify inefficiencies, evaluate policies, and develop recommendations. We then work closely with business leaders and engineering teams to implement the solutions. The team is steadily growing and, like the rest of Amazon, we are looking to have exceptional economists, scientists, and engineers to join the team.
