Build and support authentic community pride and ownership of the Heritage Center, its mission, and stories of the Underground Railroad in Niagara Falls. Work collaboratively to align and mobilize critical stakeholder relationships that support mutually beneficial needs, goals and priorities of the community and the Heritage Center. Part of my essential duties include: Serve as the key external representative of the Heritage Center and exemplify the Heritage Center’s commitment to equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion. Be visibly present in the neighborhoods of Niagara Falls and the greater Western New York Region, and work with a variety of organizations serving the needs of local communities. Serve as Heritage Center spokesperson in a variety of situations both virtually and in-person, often in media settings. Plan and manage the Heritage Center’s presence at community-led events, markets, performances, and meetings. Oversee requests from outside organizations for Heritage Center participation in community related activities. Seek strategic partners for new or expanded collaborations with local, regional and national organizations to increase awareness, working to connect tourist audiences directly to the community. Bring the voices representing community interests, needs and priorities to the Heritage Center to inform program and exhibit planning and implementation. Implement strategies to build bridges between historical content and current events, and co-create an inquiry-based learner and facilitated dialogue experience. Serves as a resource to colleagues to identify partnering organizations and advisors for programs, projects and exhibits. Advise on the Museum Ambassador Program and paid internships that encourages and supports a diverse body of team members from communities underrepresented in museums, history and arts to obtain training in the museum field.
