About Sakib Mahmud

Dr. Sakib Mahmud is a Professor in Sustainable Management and Economics at the School of Business and Economics of the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Dr. Mahmud is also affiliated with the Sustainable Management undergraduate and graduate programs which are offered in collaboration between University of Wisconsin campuses and the University of Wisconsin Online Collaboratives Program at Madison, Wisconsin.Prior to this appointment, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor for the academic year 20••••12 at the Department of Economics of the University of Montana. He was also a lecturer at the Department of Economics at North South University in Bangladesh for the academic years of 20••••05. He received his doctoral degree in economics from the Department of Economics and Finance at the University of Wyoming in 2011. He completed his degree in M.A. in Economics from the University of British Columbia (UBC) of Canada in 2002.Dr. Sakib\'s research specializations include applied microeconomics with applications on issues related to sustainable management/ sustainability, environmental and resource economics, climate change adaptation of coastal households, small business economics, and public policy. Dr. Mahmud received numerous grants during his brief academic career. He was also 20••••15 Wisconsin Teaching Fellow under the University of Wisconsin System. Dr. Mahmud is current President of the Wisconsin Economic Association (WEA). He is also serving as a Board Member of the Boreal Waters Community Foundation - a non-profit organization that encourage private giving for the public good and foster generosity, civic engagement and inclusiveness. Dr. Mahmud is a Steering Committee Member of the National Bank of Commerce-sponsored Regional Economic Indicators Forum (REIF) to perform research to develop long-term study of economic indicators that covers 15 counties in Minnesota and Wisconsin.From Spring 2015, Dr. Mahmud is serving as the Academic Director for the Sustainable Management Undergraduate program offered through the University of Wisconsin system.To establish research collaborations, Dr. Mahmud is a Senior Fellow at the Asian Center for Development, which is a research think tank to promote better understanding and relations among the people, policy makers, researchers and academics in order to a ensure sustainable development path for Asia. Dr. Mahmud enjoys working with Duluth Superior Eco Rotary with his spouse and young family. He enjoys reading nonfictions, watching movies, and playing/ watching soccer, cricket, and tennis.
