ABOUT SAKEENA MIHAR

Hi, I am Sakeena, founder and CEO of Savyn. I like solving problems and thinking outside the box, I don’t fit into traditional expectations or definitions and I love it. This and my lived experience as a survivor of war inspired me to found Savyn, where we are solving the problem of access to mental health support for vulnerable populations. Our platform is based on neurotherapy and unlike traditional talk therapies, reduces PTSD symptoms like depression, distress and anxiety in just 8 weeks, backed by our clinical study at Sick Kids Research Institute in Toronto, which is the leading research institute in Canada. The study was administered to adults diagnosed with PTSD and had survived a serious motor vehicle accident. We are now in market, serving refugees & IDPs across Canada, Syria & Lebanon in Arabic, Farsi, Spanish,French and English. Savyn is a social impact organization, serving SDG Goals 3 - good health and wellbeing, Goal 8 - decent work & economic groth, and goal 10 -reducing inequities. We’ve also been recognized by many social impact prizes, including Johnson & Johnson Social Impact prize for health, the Desjardin Cooperathon - Social Impact award, Penny Appeal Social Accelerator fund and also selected as a fellow for the MIT Solve program 2023/2024 cohort. I also wear other hijabs on top of being a founder, as equity & social justice focused worker, consulting and providing training on diversity and inclusion issues, specifically focused on gendered Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hate. I co-founded the first ever Muslim Employee network at Toronto Metropolitan University, organizing and gathering people together to learn about each other and bring systemic changes. I conduct workshops on Islamophobia, bystander intervention, equity and inclusion issues for several organizations. I am also a public speaker at conferences and events for mental health, entrepreneurship and inclusion topics. If you’d like to learn more about what I do or would like to support in any way please DM me.
