ABOUT SAIRA ARSHAD

I’m a Senior Software Engineer in Test with over 10 years of experience working across APIs, cloud platforms and machine learning systems. I currently work on the BBC’s Recommendations platform where I focus on improving the reliability and quality of cloud-based ML systems. My work sits at the intersection of testing, platform engineering and ML reliability. I design and implement testing approaches for distributed systems running on AWS, validate CI/CD pipelines and help teams build confidence in complex deployment workflows. Recent work:• testing CI/CD pipelines used to deploy SageMaker ML pipelines • validating secure Docker deployment workflows to Amazon ECR • building environment validation frameworks for data science platforms • designing deployment observability dashboards • contributing to threat modelling as a Security Champion Before joining the BBC, I worked at Tesco Bank, where I built automation frameworks for digital banking and insurance platforms using Java, Selenium and Cucumber, and contributed to API testing for financial services. Earlier in my career at Sage, I worked on cloud products and also acted as a Security Champion, supporting threat modelling and security readiness activities. Across all roles I enjoy working closely with engineers, platform teams and data scientists to embed testing practices early in development and improve system reliability. Technologies I regularly work with include Python, Java, AWS, CI/CD pipelines, PySpark, API automation and cloud platform testing.
