The Sorrells Lab investigates the protracted maturation of cells in the mouse amygdala, a brain region involved in emotional regulation, which we hypothesize to play a role in the plasticity of neural circuits with age- Manage a mouse colony of over 100 mice, including regular health checks, breeding schemes, and genotyping- Work collaboratively with other members of the lab in developing experiments and writing results- Developed proficiency in immunohistochemistry, mouse tissue sectioning and processing, intracardial perfusion, genotyping, and confocal microscopy

ABOUT SAHIL KHATTAR
My current research involves characterizing the delayed maturation of immature neurons near the lateral ventricles in mice to assess homology to the human amygdala, and how their immature properties may allow them to integrate into neural circuits, a type of neural plasticity. My broader interest is in how the plasticity of various regions of the brain and nervous system is implicated in neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, and how neural or synaptic plasticity might be harnessed in treatment for affected circuitry. I am a goal-driven individual who ensures that my projects are done with precision and consistency to produce publishable results.
