Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Responses to Xenobiotics - Unit of Functional and Adaptive Biology (BFA)- CNRS UMR 8251- Development and optimization of protocols to evaluate the short- and long-term biological effects (toxicity, barrier integrity, CYP450 activity, inflammation, oxidative stress, mucins production, activation of signaling pathways, etc.) of nanomaterials and toxic compounds in vitro, using a 3D model (air-liquid interface) of the human bronchial epithelium- Assessment of the fate (internalization and translocation) of nanoparticles within the reconstructed bronchial epithelium (fluorescence spectroscopy, TEM and Raman microscopy)- Design and implementation of a study to evaluate the metabolization of a toxic compound using HPLC and LC-MS- Development and physicochemical characterization of nanoparticles coating with an organic compound.(ATR-FTIR, Raman microscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy)- Collaboration with analytical platforms and European partners within the H2020 EU project PlasticsFate- Articles writing, results reporting at meetings- Scientific communication with more than 12 poster and oral presentations at national and international conferences and webinars- Supervision of students and training of staff.

ABOUT SAFAA MAWAS
Actively seeking new opportunities in academia or industry where I can apply my expertise in toxicology, pharmacology, nanomaterials and analytical chemistry to innovative and impactful scientific projects. I\'ve always been interested by the complexity of the human body, how it responds to a vast array of stimuli, from external exposures like drugs, personal care products and environmental factors, to internal shifts such as age-related changes. My academic journey has deepened this interest, inspiring a strong commitment to advancing human health through science-driven innovation. My experience has focused on developing new therapies and personal care products, with a particular interest in preclinical testing. I am dedicated to developing reliable in vitro methods that evaluate the efficacy of active ingredients while minimizing the need for animal experimentation. Driven by a desire to broaden my expertise, I pursued a PhD in toxicology, a critical discipline in research and development. This has enabled me to contribute to the safety evaluation of nanomaterials and toxic compounds and improve risk assessment strategies.
