ABOUT SAE HOON STAN CHUNG

I work at the intersection of governance, trust, and institutional redesign, with a focus on how public and Indigenous-serving organizations make decisions under conditions of complexity, legal obligation, and social change.Much of my early work involved translating decolonial and relational accountability concepts into institutional settings. My current focus is more structural in complex industrial and cross sectoral spaces: helping organizations design governance systems that can sustain consent, disagreement, and accountability over time, rather than relying on urgency, symbolic alignment, or informal workarounds.I have served as Chair of the British Columbia Arts Council (three terms), Chair and Director of the Royal BC Museum, Director of Kakin Group, and as former Chief Administrative Officer for ʔaq̓am.Across these roles, my work centres on governance redesign that clarifies authority, redistributes consequence appropriately, and strengthens implementation capacity—particularly in complex contexts involving Indigenous rights, public accountability, extractive resource development, and challenging community and stakeholder relationships.My work focuses on trust as infrastructure: the policies, decision pathways, and accountability mechanisms that shape how risk, responsibility, and authority are held within institutions and economic corridors. I am especially interested innovative governance models that move consent upstream, reduce avoidable conflict, and allow organizations to operate with patience and legitimacy rather than speed alone.I believe public governance succeeds not when disagreement is eliminated, but when institutions are designed to hold disagreement without losing coherence, credibility, or public trust.The relationship is the task.
