About Sadashiv Vombatkere

I joined the Electrical Branch of the Indian Navy in 1987 after graduating in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras. A postgraduate in Computer Science from IIT Bombay I was actively associated with various academic and technology initiatives of the Indian Navy for over 25 years in the areas of Software Development & Cybersecurity. I was awarded the Naosena (Navy) Medal by the President of India in 1998 for my work in development of software applications for Naval Operations at sea. I was a member, and later head, of the team that pioneered the development of cybersecurity solutions for the Indian Navy. I was the head of the Software Engineering Group, the Indian Navy’s nodal agency for Embedded Systems support, and the head of the Naval Technical Group that is responsible for Reliability & Maintainability studies of indigenously developed Electrical, Communication, Electronic Warfare, and Weapon & Sensor networks and systems. I also worked at the Defence Cyber Agency as head of the Cyber Defence Group. I have over the years been a member of various expert committees and Project Steering & Review Groups for Information Security in the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Communications & IT. I have also been a member of the External Expert Committee for Post Graduate Programmes in Cyber Security at IIT Delhi and am an Honorary Adjunct Fellow for Cyber Security at the National Maritime Foundation, New Delhi. After I superannuated as a Commodore from the Indian Navy in January 2022. I have been working since then as a Cybersecurity Expert Consultant in the areas of ISO-21434 & ISO-24089 Process Compliance and Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA) of Automobile systems.My areas of expertise & interest include Cybersecurity Standards & Processes, Cybersecurity Threat & Risk Assessment, Cybersecurity Policy, System Complexity, Zero Trust Architectures and Cryptographic System Engineering.
