About Sabrina Campelo
Current radiation oncology physics resident at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Excellent exposure to academic research with unique projects in medical physics, engineering, and mathematics, multiple first author peer reviewed journal publications, a combination of podium and poster presentations, invited talks at regional and international research conferences, undergraduate and graduate level lecturer, and two provisional patents. Aspiring to be a clinical medical physicist with an emphasis in research. I believe that my background in radiation therapy and my current research focus on developing novel cancer pulsed electric field therapies provide me with a unique perspective on the application of physics in the world of cancer care.I am motivated to be a leader and to contribute to advancements in the field. I believe diversity is a key factor in the expansion and success of any growing field, even more so in the field of science. I believe it is imperative for organizations, institutions, and mentors, to consider the importance of seeking out persons from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences. I have become involved with organizations including Adopt a Physicist, Women and Mathematics Mentorship Program, the Society of Physics Students (SPS) Alumni Engagement Program and the AAPM Hispanic and Latin-x Medical Physics Subcommittee in an attempt to help encourage those from underrepresented backgrounds to consider careers in STEM.
