About Sabrina Gray
Hello there! My name is Sabrina Gray. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning at Georgetown University, where I focus on equitable development, sustainability, and migration policy. I’m especially interested in how cities shape opportunity and how thoughtful planning can either reinforce exclusion or create real pathways to belonging for Black and immigrant communities.I earned my undergraduate degree in Urban Planning from Bryn Mawr College, where I was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Research Fellow. My independent research explored the spatial politics of identity among Kenyan immigrants in Atlanta, blending ethnographic fieldwork with postcolonial and urban theory. That experience continues to ground my work. It taught me that planning is not just about land use or infrastructure, but about memory, power, and who feels at home in a place.Alongside graduate school, I work on staff at Running Start, a national nonprofit that trains young women to run for office and step into civic leadership. Through programs like Elect Her and our Congressional Fellowship, I help design and implement trainings that give young women the tools, confidence, and community they need to lead. Supporting emerging leaders has sharpened the same questions that animate my planning work: Who has access to decision-making? Whose voices shape policy? How do institutions open or close doors? To me, urban planning is deeply collaborative and unavoidably political. It calls for historical awareness, institutional fluency, and a sustained commitment to centering community voice. Whether I am thinking about housing policy, climate resilience, or civic leadership, I am motivated by the belief that more inclusive systems and more representative leadership are mutually reinforcing.I’m always glad to connect with others working to build communities and institutions that are more just, resilient, and inclusive.
