ABOUT SAANVI PURKAYASTHA
I am a Psychology student at the University of Leeds with academic and applied experience across psychological research, mental health, and community-based wellbeing initiatives. My interests centre on understanding psychological processes within their broader social, cultural, and structural contexts, with particular attention to ethics, equity, and evidence-based practice.Alongside my degree, I have worked as a Research Assistant on projects in cognitive psychology and action research, including methodological work focused on decolonising curricula in psychotherapy and counselling. My experience includes facilitating structured discussions, conducting qualitative analysis, and contributing to research coordination within multidisciplinary teams. These roles have strengthened my commitment to methodological rigour, reflexivity, and inclusive research practice. In parallel, I have held leadership and welfare roles involving peer support, signposting, and health advocacy. Through this work, I have developed strong skills in boundary-aware support, clear communication, and engagement with diverse communities. I am particularly interested in how race, culture, and systemic inequality shape mental health experiences and access to care, and in how psychologically informed practice can be made more inclusive and responsive.I am currently building experience in preparation for postgraduate training in psychology, with long-term aims in clinically informed and research-led roles. My goal is to contribute to mental health practice that is ethically grounded, culturally informed, and attentive to the lived realities of the individuals and communities it serves.
