About Saad Ahmad

I have been interested in technology since I was a child. I remember pressing all of the different buttons on my dad’s camera and would never stop asking “dad, what does that do” or “mom, can you press that for me!” One day in first grade, my questions and curiosities led me to fiddle with the family VCR so I could watch Sesame Street without having to bother my parents. From then on, I jumped from laptop to PDA to tablet learning how to do just about anything. In middle school, I got my first smartphone and rather than downloading games or listening to music, I went straight to tinkering and flashed different ROMs and kernels. Soon, my hunger expanded past my phone and I started working on websites and learned Java and JavaScript. I carried this passion with me to UT where I learned so much more. My favorite classes have been Operating Systems and Computer Architecture as they have taught me about the underpinnings of computers and are a nod to my phone tinkering days. Currently, I am working with Flask and Python to create some cool web apps.As a sophomore, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and explore a new field, so I joined a tech startup on their marketing team. Through this, I gained valuable insights into how tech and marketing mix, while also learning a lot about both industries. As a junior, I worked as a software engineer at Target on their NoSQL team. Currently, I am working at Expedia on their booking notifications team.Aside from technology, I spend my free time listening to music, reading, and watching movies. I really enjoy comedy and have dabbled in writing some stand-up.
