ABOUT VISHAKAN VIS S
I recently completed my MSc in Materials Science from Anna University, where I worked on developing red mud–boron nitride reinforced silicone rubber nanocomposites for high-voltage electrical insulation. My thesis was done at IIT Madras, and it focused on improving surface discharge resistance by using sustainable industrial waste (red mud) as a filler in polymer systems. I gained hands-on experience in preparing and characterizing these materials using techniques like FTIR, AFM, TGA, contact angle, and I–V analysis. Before that, during my UG at PSG Tech, I worked on treated banana fiber–reinforced bio composites, where I first got exposure to plasma surface treatment, thin film deposition, and composite fabrication. I’ve also worked on graphene-based aerogels for EMI shielding, and polymer composites under rotating magnetic fields during short projects at IIT Madras. My interests are broad but connected with polymer nanocomposites, silicone and carbon based materials, insulation materials, plasma-based surface engineering, 2D materials, sustainability, energy storage, super capacitors, batteries and crystal growth. I enjoy working in the lab, doing experiments, and analyzing data. I’m now actively looking for PhD positions, research associate roles, or research-driven jobs where I can continue building on what I’ve learned and contribute meaningfully to materials research. If you’re working in similar areas or looking for a motivated early-career researcher, I’d love to connect!
