ABOUT SEBASTIAN HENLEY

Originally from South Africa, I moved to Germany in 2019 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, which I completed in 2022 with a specialization in Finance, Banking, and Insurance. Building on this strong theoretical foundation, I undertook an MBA in Digital and Media Management at Hamburg Media School, specializing in Startups and Business Development. My MBA complemented my theoretical background with practical experience through consulting projects and startup development, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application. During my studies, I gained diverse professional experience. I worked part-time in business development at Mennewisch & Co, launched a business showcasing South African art and design in a Hamburg gallery, which I co-founded with three local artists and designers, and supported the ESG team at HANSAINVEST with carbon footprinting, investor engagement and ESG reporting. In addition, I served as Vice President and Head of Partnerships at START Hamburg, a student-run non-profit dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship among students in Europe. In these roles, I played a key part in building networks and organizing initiatives to inspire and empower the next generation of founders. My tenure at START concluded with the successful completion of my MBA in 2024. Currently, I am the Programme Development Manager at the Startup Factory Hamburg, where I design and implement innovative offerings aimed at equipping students and researchers with the skills to excel in the deep-tech startup ecosystem. My role involves collaborating with academic institutions, industry experts, and aspiring entrepreneurs to create impactful learning opportunities that drive innovation and entrepreneurial success. I am passionate about leveraging education and collaboration to nurture the startups of tomorrow.
