About Rylie Hightower
I graduated from New Mexico State University in May 2015 with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and I hold my Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Alabama. From 20••••21 I was a graduate research assistant in the lab of Matthew Alexander, PhD in the Department of Pediatrics, division of Neurology at Children\'s of Alabama/The University of Alabama at Birmingham. In the summer of 2021 I achieved my PhD in Biomedical Neuroscience. Throughout my time in graduate school, I realized the power of getting a group of folks together around a table of drinks. This left me eager to pursue opening a food and beverage establishment aimed at creating a place where liquid courage can help drive inspiration and ideas that help change our community. Because of this, my bar and restaurant, The Lumbar, was born in December of 2018. After graduating with my PhD in 2021, I became the Owning Manager and Food & Beverage Director of The Lumbar. My personal tagline: patients, pipettes, and PBR.

I\'m the owner and beverage director of The Lumbar, a neighborhood craft cocktail bar and restaurant, in the heart of Birmingham, AL. It\'s a science themed bar, so we use scientific principles and events as catalysts to inspire the community through food and drinks.
