About Ryan S.
Ryan is a designer, technologist, and artist interested in the overlap between light, media, immersive storytelling, and the built environment. He is currently a Lighting Designer at Lightswitch, working remotely with a fantastic San Francisco-based team.He is a graduate of Yale University, with a major in Computing and the Arts and a focus in Theater Studies. His work has centered on the intersection of theatre, art, light, and technology. His career experiences in theatrical lighting design included roles at the 70th Annual Tony Awards, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and Williamstown Theatre Festival, among others. In 2019, Ryan was a finalist for the Louis Sudler Prize for Excellence in the Performing and Creative Arts. Ryan’s design work has been applauded by the Yale Daily News and his thesis production was published as a case study by City Theatrical.In January 2020, Ryan began work in the architectural lighting industry, and was a lighting consultant at Arup. From April 2021 to May 2022 Ryan was a full-time Junior Lighting Designer at Electrolight.Ryan also completed 38 credits towards an MFA in Art & Technology + Integrated Media at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) from August 2022 through May 2023.He is an alumnus of the Yale Dramatic Association and served on the Executive Board from 2017 to 2018 as the Marketing Director.
