ABOUT RYAN DOOLAN
I graduated from Strathclyde in June 2016 with a Master\'s in Civil engineering, with my Master thesis being completed at UPC Barcelona. I participated in a summer internship with GSK Pharmaceuticals from June until August 2015 which was sourced through the Saltire Foundation. I am a former exchange student at City University of Hong Kong for both the Autumn 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters. Prior to this, I was a Sales Advisor for MacDonald Hotels & Resorts. I joined AECOM in July 2016 as a Graduate Engineer in the Strategic Highways business line, based in the Citypoint office in Glasgow. During this time I’ve worked on a variety of highway projects and gained great experience in the development of drainage designs; updating of drawings; and modelling of drainage designs, using AutoDesk and WinDes design software, to ensure they are compliant to standards for major highways schemes. I have also been involved in the preparation of strategy reports and project plans to define client expectations on ongoing projects. Since March 2019 I have been working for WSP as an Engineer again in the highways team, bringing the experience gained to this new role, primarily working on the A9 Dualling Perth to Inverness. Through collaboration with members of other design teams involved in highways projects, I have gained experience and understanding covering multiple disciplines in the highways sector to better inform my design ethos, reduce the potential for clashes between designs, and generally improve interdisciplinary communication. I am the current Chair of the Graduates and Students subcommittee for both the ICE Glasgow & West of Scotland branch and for the ICE Scotland region and thus am heavily involved in the CPD events these committees arrange.
