About Ryan Sanford
I am an incoming Ph.D student at Georgia Institute of Technology in the Nuclear and Radiological Engineering and Medical Physics department. I previously completed my M.S degree in Medical Physics with a concentration in Radiation Therapy at Duke University. While at Duke, I conducted HDR GYN Brachytherapy research under the guidance of Drs. Oana Craciunescu and Julie Raffi, where we worked toward translating a real-time needle-tracking system designed for high-precision prostate biopsy to be used in GYN brachytherapy.Prior to my M.S, I earned my B.S. in Physics with a double major in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science from the University of Richmond. As an undergraduate, I participated in Experimental Nuclear and Particle Physics research under the guidance of Dr. Gerard Gilfoyle. During my four years as an undergraduate research assistant, I participated in three different projects, presented my work at two national conferences, and contributed to the publication of a CLAS12 Technical note at Jefferson National Laboratory. I am passionate about science and research and am specifically interested in the intersections between physics and medicine.
