About Ryan Hamberg
I am a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Cincinnati with a strong foundation in applied engineering, quality systems, and cross-functional collaboration. My academic path began with an early commitment to the field through Butler Tech, where I completed seven specialized engineering courses covering fundamentals, aerospace systems, robotics, and computer-integrated manufacturing — giving me a head start in both theory and practical skill development. During my co-op at Powerex Inc, I supported quality and manufacturing engineering functions in a high-impact role. I led the development of a macro-driven air system test sheet, which delivered an estimated $5,426 in monthly savings. I authored and implemented over 10 work instructions across departments, coordinated supplier corrective actions using tools like 5W2H, assisted in ISO 9001:2015 audit preparation, and helped drive improvements in Out of Box Failure (OOBF) rates through testing, documentation, and proactive vendor engagement. In addition to my professional experience, I’ve completed personal engineering projects including rewiring my car\'s audio system and performing hands-on mechanical restoration and repair of agricultural equipment such as tractors. These hands-on endeavors have sharpened my troubleshooting skills and strengthened my understanding of mechanical systems. I am passionate about continuous improvement, lean manufacturing principles, and cross-disciplinary problem-solving. I strive to develop into an engineer who bridges the gap between technical performance and operational excellence — with a mindset rooted in data, teamwork, and practical innovation.
Experience
Quality Manufacturing Engineer Co-op
May 2025 — Present · Harrison, OH, US
As a Quality/Manufacturing Engineering Co-op at Powerex Inc, I’ve had the opportunity to take on impactful responsibilities across quality, manufacturing, and process improvement. I led the development of a macro-driven air system test sheet for 9-plex, 18-motor configurations—saving the company an estimated $8,426/month. I held cross-functional meetings to roll out improvements and ensure alignment across departments.I authored and updated over 10 work instructions, covering topics such as wiring machine operation, manifold packaging, system photography, and pump RMA processes. I also created a first piece article for our wiring machine and supported calibration and environmental compliance checks on tools and skids.I helped prepare for and pass the ISO 9001:2015 audit, worked on the Document Change Master List, and collaborated directly with suppliers—using 5W2H forms to resolve issues, secure reimbursements, and initiate corrective actions.Other contributions include performing hands-on testing of valves and regulators, identifying and communicating design-critical dimensions for manufacturing, and participating in Gemba walks and root cause analysis. I’ve strengthened skills in Excel, VBA macros, technical writing, process documentation, supplier communication, and cross-functional collaboration. This role has broadened my perspective on engineering as a whole and strengthened both my technical and communication skills in a real-world setting.
