ABOUT RYAN ROEDER
I have a BSc in Chemistry from Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina, and a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering with a polymer specialization from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. While at Clemson, I studied under Prof. Stephen H. Foulger and was a Gregg-Graniteville Fellowship recipient. My graduate research focused on the functionalization of core-shell polymer colloids using ‘click’ chemistry and I\'ve published 10 articles that have over 200 citations. In 2012, I returned to Canada as a research associate at Queen’s University in both the chemical and environmental engineering departments under Prof. Michael Cunningham and Prof. Pascale Champagne. My research focused on the surface functionalization of nanocrystalline cellulose using controlled radical polymerization. After 5 years of teaching at Sheridan College, I joined the Biotechnology Technician program at Conestoga College. I enjoy sharing my love and enthusiasm for chemistry with my students! I am now the coordinator for the new Bachelor of Applied Biotechnology honours degree at Conestoga College. I have been developing this degree for 4 years and I\'m excited that it is finally a reality. I live in Kitchener with my wife Jessica, my son Nolan, and my daughter Josie. When I\'m not chauffeuring my kids around to their activities, I enjoy coaching baseball, playing golf, or doing yard work.
