Ryan Maw, PE, GE, BCGE, FASCE is a Principal at Gerhart Cole with over 20 years of experience as a researcher and practitioner in Geotechnical / GeoEnvironmental Engineering. Mr. Maw is a licensed professional engineer (PE) and Geotechnical Engineer (GE) in California (PE/GE), Missouri, Oregon (PE/GE), Utah, and Washington State. Mr. Maw completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University. His graduate research focused on a potential failure modes analysis (PFMA) and distress recognition for a portfolio of geotechnical assets owned by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). As an ASCE Fellow, Mr. Maw has been recognized nationally for his contributions to research and practice as well as his involvement with the Embankments, Dams and Slopes, Critical Infrastructure and the Earthquake Engineering and Soil Dynamics Committees. Mr. Maw has also been recognized on a national level by ASCE\'s Geo-Institute as a Next-Generation Geo-Professional. Locally, he has been recognized by his peers as Utah’s Engineer of the Year (2021) by the Utah Section. As a technical consultant and practitioner, Mr. Maw has provided innovative geotechnical solutions and designs to complex problems for public and private clients throughout the Intermountain West and along the West Coast. His work extends across a wide range of infrastructure including: levees, dams, mining, transportation, earthquake hazards, emergency structures, port facilities, and geoenvironmental projects. This experience has provided Mr. Maw with insights into the design, construction, hazards, and risks associated with complex, interdependent civil networks.
