Media education works best when the person at the front of the room never fully left the industry.I\'m a Contract Lecturer and Video Production Technician at Toronto Metropolitan University\'s RTA School of Media, where I\'ve spent over 17 years developing curriculum, building production infrastructure, and working closely with faculty to create meaningful learning experiences for students in the Sport Media, Media Production, and Journalism programs.What sets my approach apart is that I\'ve never stopped working in professional broadcast production. As a Video Production Technician within the Production Unit of The Creative School\'s Technology, Planning and Innovation department, I oversee multi-camera control room operations across all three programs — bringing those real-world experiences directly into my teaching. My students don\'t simulate broadcast production. They do it.A centrepiece of that philosophy is the nationally recognized TMU Bold Broadcast Group — a co-curricular initiative at the forefront of next generation content creation and storytelling, producing 80+ live TMU Athletics broadcasts a year from the Sportsnet RTA Production Centre at Mattamy Athletic Centre.Increasingly, that means preparing students for where the industry is heading. Virtual production is now integrated into our curriculum — giving students hands-on experience with the tools and workflows reshaping broadcast and media production at the highest levels.I\'ve built real-world industry pathways through an ongoing partnership with Rogers Sportsnet — connecting emerging talent directly with one of Canada\'s leading sports broadcast networks.I\'ve also led initiatives like TMU Votes — a live election broadcast collaboration between RTA and TMU\'s School of Journalism combining virtual production with hybrid remote workflows and on-site student reporters.
